Nozzle Separator 4800rpm Continuous Protein Recovery Soy Whey Concentration Improved Capture
Product Overview
The Nozzle Separator Centrifuge is a precision-engineered disc stack centrifuge designed for high-value protein recovery applications in the food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. With an industry-leading material recovery rate exceeding 97%, this machine maximizes the capture of valuable protein solids while delivering consistent product quality through continuous, non-stop solids discharge operation.
Built with SS316L stainless steel throughout all product-contact surfaces and finished to Ra ≤ 0.6 μm, it meets the most demanding hygienic standards. The optimized disc stack geometry with 0.35mm spacer caulks creates exceptionally thin separation channels that capture even the finest protein particles (down to 0.5 μm).

Primary Applications
  • Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) Production: Concentration of precipitated soy protein curd after isoelectric precipitation, reducing drying costs by concentrating from 15% to 35%+ solids before spray drying
  • Whey Protein Recovery: Recovery of whey protein from cheese whey after ultrafiltration pre-concentration, capturing fine protein particles that escape membrane systems
  • Enzyme Concentration: Harvesting and concentration of industrial enzymes (protease, amylase, lipase) from fermentation broth with high activity retention
  • Probiotic Biomass Harvesting: Continuous concentration of probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium) with gentle handling to maintain cell viability >95%
  • Algae Biomass Concentration: Dewatering of microalgae (Chlorella, Spirulina) for nutraceutical and biofuel feedstock applications
Operating Principle
The separator operates using high-G centrifugal sedimentation within a closely spaced disc stack. Feed enters the rotating bowl through a stationary inlet pipe and is accelerated to bowl speed by a specially designed distributor that minimizes shear—critical for maintaining protein functionality.
Within the disc stack, the intense centrifugal field (4,900 G) causes protein particles to sediment onto the disc surfaces within milliseconds. The sedimented proteins slide along the disc surfaces toward the bowl periphery, where they are continuously discharged through precision nozzles.
The continuous discharge design eliminates the need for periodic bowl opening, preventing product quality variations and enabling true 24/7 operation with no feed interruption. The gentle product handling maintains functional properties (solubility, gelation, emulsification) essential for end-use applications.
Selection Guidelines
  1. Analyze Protein Feed Properties: Determine protein type, isoelectric point, feed concentration, particle size, temperature sensitivity, and shear sensitivity
  2. Define Recovery Target: Achieves >97% recovery for most protein applications. For ultra-high recovery (>99%), consider a two-stage configuration
  3. Select Material Finish: Standard SS316L with electropolish (Ra ≤ 0.6 μm) meets most requirements. For pharmaceutical-grade applications, specify Ra ≤ 0.4 μm
  4. Determine CIP Requirements: Can be equipped with integrated CIP spray balls and dedicated CIP supply connections
  5. Consider Pre-treatment: For feeds with wide particle size distribution, pre-hydrocyclone or vibrating screen upstream can protect the disc stack from blockage
  6. Pilot Testing: Strongly recommended for protein applications to determine optimal nozzle diameter, bowl speed, and feed rate
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the centrifuge damage or denature my proteins?
The separator is specifically designed for gentle protein handling. The controlled acceleration at the inlet, smooth flow paths, and moderate operating temperature minimize shear and thermal stress. In pilot tests with soy protein and whey protein, we consistently observe <5% loss of solubility and <3% loss of gelation capacity after separation.
How does the 97%+ recovery rate compare to other technologies?
Hydrocyclones typically achieve 85-92% protein recovery. Decanter centrifuges achieve 90-95% but with higher shear and lower concentration factors. The separator's 97%+ recovery rate combined with high concentration factors (up to 20:1) makes it the most efficient choice for high-value protein streams.
Can the separator process heat-sensitive proteins?
Yes. The machine can be supplied with a cooling jacket on the bowl housing and temperature-controlled seal flush water. For the most heat-sensitive applications, we recommend operating at reduced bowl speed and providing chilled feed to maintain product temperature below the denaturation threshold.
What cleaning procedures are required between product batches?
The separator supports three cleaning modes: (1) short rinse cycle (15-20 minutes) with warm water and detergent for product changeovers, (2) full CIP cycle (45-60 minutes) with caustic and acid washes for complete product removal, and (3) manual disassembly cleaning for validated pharmaceutical processes.
